Elderberry Field Day (Sep 17, 2019)
Over 40 attendees gathered at The Cloverleaf Farm in Dixon, CA on September 17, 2019 to learn how California native blue elderberries (Sambucus nigra ssp. cerulea) can add value as a crop while also serving as a beneficial hedgerow plant and adding biodiversity to farms. An engaging line up of speakers shared their knowledge and experience around elderberry production, ecological benefits of hedgerows on farms, nutritional benefits of elderberries and ways of making elderberry value-added products. The afternoon included a walking tour of the elderberry hedgerow plantings alongside other California natives, and finished with elder-inspired refreshments using The Cloverleaf Farm’s elderberry syrup and Carmel Berry Company’s elderflower cordial.
