Bio

Sue Mosbacher joined UC ANR in 2010 as a local Program Coordinator for the UC Master Gardener and Master Food Preserver Programs in El Dorado. At that time there were only three Master Food Preserver Programs remaining in California. With Sue’s help there are now 17 programs covering 37 counties. Sue balanced coordinating two local programs and the statewide program since 2018, giving her a real-world view of the Master Food Preserver Program’s needs to address at the statewide level. In 2021 Sue created a hybrid statewide new volunteer training program using a combination of online classes and pre-recorded videos paired with local hands-on labs, welcoming over 400 new UC Master Food Preserver Volunteers into the UC ANR community.

Sue holds a duel Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from McDaniel College in Maryland and worked as a systems program for 17 years. She fell in love with food preservation after going through the volunteer training in 2011 as a staff member. She taught in-person and online classes on freezing, dehydrating, boiling water and atmospheric steam canning, pressure canning and fermentation. Her favorite food to preserve is pressure canned soup, making it easy to whip together dinner at the last minute.
