Health Care Without HarmUC SAREP & Community Alliance with Family Farmers are pleased to offer this on-farm workshop on dry bean harvest, processing and marketing strategies, particularly for small and mid-scale growers. Participants will tour the farm and see demonstrations of dry bean threshing both by hand and with mechanized equipment. There is no cost for this educational and networking opportunity.

Mike Reeske from Rio Del Rey Beans will talk about his approach to growing, cleaning, and selling dry beans. He'll demonstrate equipment, including a PTO-run Turkish sourced thresher used to harvest plantings from 2 to 15 acres. Additional topics will include the role of beans in diversified farming systems, food safety considerations, and key cultural practices specific to heirloom beans.

  • Close-toed shoes and be prepared to walk
  • Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen)
  • Layers (in the event of cooler weather)
  • Water bottle (we will provide water)
