$200,000 Awarded to Sustainable Ag Projects
Assessing the risk of rangeland cattle shedding the water-borne pathogen Cryptosporidium, using oil to control vineyard mites, controlled grazing of livestock on foothill rangelands, using the sale of water rights to promote rural sustainable development, and an innovative cooking and science program for children are among the 17 production and community development projects funded this week by the UC Davis-based UC Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program. Additionally, 13 educational meetings and six graduate student projects were funded, bringing the total SAREP grant awards to $200,000. "Sustainability of society and of California are issues that are important", says Bill Liebhardt, SAREP director. "We believe that these projects will help provide information that will benefit both present and future generations".
