SAREP, IPM program offering joint funding for rural/urban education events
Two University of California statewide special programs are pooling their resources to fund workshops, field days, seminars and other events addressing integrated pest management in agricultural or urban settings, organically acceptable pest control methods, biologically based alternatives to methyl bromide, agroforestry practices, and the development of sustainable community food systems.
The UC Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (SAREP) and UC Statewide Integrated Pest Management Project (IPM) are jointly offering grants of up to $1,500 for events taking place between August 1, 2001 and June 30, 2002. Total funding available is $50,000. The deadline for proposals is May 22, 2001.
"Were hoping to be able to help farmers and consumers throughout the state in their efforts to adopt more sustainable practices by funding these workshops," says Sean L. Swezey, SAREP director.
"We are excited to cooperate with another statewide program in funding meetings to extend important new techniques in the state," says Frank Zalom, IPM director.
The grants are available to individuals affiliated with California public or private educational institutions, non-profit, tax-exempt organizations, or state or federal government agencies. Participation of UC Cooperative Extension in proposals is encouraged. Complete guidelines of how to apply for funding are included in the full Request for Proposals (RFP) posted on SAREPs Web site at www.sarep.ucdavis.edu/grants/request.htm.
