Publications / ProductsMy first two years of college were spent at Iowa State University in Farm Operations/Agronomy, but I graduated with a B.S. in Agronomy from the University of Florida in 1977. After working for the Florida Department of Agriculture in the nursery inspection division for five years, I returned to serve on the faculty of the Horticultural Sciences (Vegetable Crops) Department at the University of Florida as the statewide Master Gardener Extension Coordinator while acquiring my M.S. in Horticulture (Postharvest Physiology/Technology) in 1986. My Ph.D. in Agricultural Ecology (Sustainable Agriculture) was obtained in 1991 from the University of California-Berkeley. At the University of Hawaii (1991-1997), I worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in macadamia nut IPM and later as a faculty member in tropical flower (anthurium) IPM and organic production. From 1994-97, I coordinated the USDA-SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education) Professional Development Program for the Pacific Islands. My current position as Assistant Professor-Organic Crops Specialist is a joint position between the departments of Horticulture and Agronomy. Projects on the docket include the following: Research/demonstration plots of organic soybeans following CRP land; organic herb (St. John's Wort) and vegetable production trials (in cooperation with Frontier Herbs); long-term agroecological plots at ISU Research Farms across the state; and various Extension efforts (workshops/publications on organic production/certification/marketing).
